Views From Lake Chabot Park
Lake Chabot Park is one of the oldest park in the state of California. Did you know that when the park was built in 1874-1875 it was the East Bay's main source of water supply? The lake is 315 acres and is filled with different kinds of fish such as Trout, Catfish, Bass and Cappie along with various other kinds of fish. In addition to the lake there are lots of different hiking trails available to avid hikers and outdoor adventurers.
There are several hiking trails inside of Lake Chabot Park. One of the more popular trails is the proctor trail which is located on the Castro Valley side of the park. Another notable trail is the West Shore trail which overlooks the entire Bay Area the golden gate bridge can be seen. Sometimes cows can be seen walking through the trails as if they are humans. People who have dogs may want to consider taking their dogs for walk through some of these trails.
Sailing and paddle boating are two other things people can be seen doing on a weekend at Lake Chabot Park. According to the East Bay parks website to rent a paddle boat for adults is $5 per hour for adults and $3 per hour for kids. Paddle boating is a great leg exercise and a chance for families to explore the lake from a more close up view. In addition to paddle boating and sailing Lake Chabot Park is known for hosting picnics.

There are 6 reserve picnic areas in Lake Chabot Park which can accommodate between 50-200 people. However, during the warmer months such as May, June and July calling ahead to reserve an area is highly suggested.
In conclusion, Lake Chabot Park is rich in history being one of the older parks in the state of California. This park is a must go to destination for hikers, joggers, and photographers due the overlooking views it provides of the East Bay Area.
