San Jose State University alumni writes book about how to graduate from college in four years
College is not for everyone. However, majority of American teens spend countless hours for years preparing for the SAT and ACT exams. The scholastic aptitude test and American college test are college entrance examinations. Rodve' Lewis is an African-American male from South Central Los Angeles California. Lewis attended San Jose State University for undergrad where he majored in Business Finance. Yes you guessed correctly based on the title of this article he garnered his degree in four years.
Lewis grew up in a two parent household. However, the area he was raised in was not the best. In Lewis' book titled Dream or Degrees: how to graduate from college in four years he describes South Central as being a place where "Most people are focused on paying bills and trying to make it out of their neighborhoods safely...Children lose their lives...families are torn apart over minute disputes... people are housed in projects that are swamped with poverty," Lewis said. Lewis found solace in playing basketball and rapping as a young kid.
At approximately age 10 Lewis recalls writing his first rap. He always knew rapping was what he put on this earth to do. Surprisingly Lewis never seriously contemplated attending college. Throughout high school Lewis contemplated dropping out to pursue a rap career full time. However, Lewis ultimately elected to enroll in college at San Jose State University because of their business program and it being hundreds of miles away from South Central. Being in a new unfamiliar environment allowed Lewis to mature and evolve into a responsible young man.
College is mostly about time management, discipline and sacrifices. Lewis made good use of his time while attending San Jose State University. Lewis allocated 3 hours of his day to going to class (2 classes), work 4 hours, 1 hour to eat, 3 hours for homework, 2 hours to hangout with friends, 3 hours to play basketball and lift weights, 2 hours to write music and 4 hours to sleep. This young man had a plan a true visionary. In addition to setting a strict schedule to follow each day Lewis gave up buying shoes and Coca Cola soda from 2010 to 2011 to help him obtain his ultimate goal of graduating from college in four years.
Lewis chose to write his book Dreams or Degrees: how to graduate from college in four years to go against to the norm of graduating in five years. Graduating in four years is very possible but it takes discipline, time management, and sacrifice. Lewis successfully completed college in four years and shares the blueprint. In addition, to writing a book and raps Ve performs his music in front of audiences mainly in the Los Angeles area.
In conclusion, Rodve' Lewis accomplished a feat that not a lot people who look like him have. Graduating from any University in four years is an arduous task. However, Lewis managed to do so while still being himself and never changing. He majored in Business Finance to help people learn how to manage their money and make it work for them. Lewis is the epitome of hardwork and dedication.
